    Theo như chúng ta đã biết - Nguyên âm dài có âm thanh như tên gọi của nó là AEIOU và Y. Nguyên âm dài cho phép một nguyên âm thứ hai nào đó đứng sau nó hay theo các khuôn mầu khá phức tạp và cũng lắm trường hợp ngoại lệ để tạo thành âm thanh của nguyên âm dài. Khi một từ có hai nguyên âm tương tự trong một hàng (được gọi là một nguyên âm đôi), cách phát âm của chúng là sử dụng một âm thanh của nguyên âm dài. Quy tắc này không áp dụng khi 'O' là nguyên âm đôi. Sau đây là các ví dụ cụ thể của trường hợp ngoại lệ của OO, các bạn nên tra tự điển để biết chính xác một từ thuộc về âm nào.



Short OO ngắn có 2 cách đánh vần như sau:
Giống như ut hay pull; "oo" như foot hoặc book
- Không phải giống như âm "u" trong chữ duck.

Âm đôi EE luôn là Âm dài
Qui tắc nguyên âm dài:
Khi hai nguyên âm đi chung với nhau,
nguyên âm đầu nói lên tên gọi của nó,
nguyên âm thứ hai chỉ im lặng đi theo.
[When two vowels go walking the first one does the talking,
(it says its name) the second vowel does the walking, (it is silent).
